Which Chips Were Hottest in 2025? (with a Summary of Popular Part Number for the Year)

Popular part numbers were back in strong circulation in 2025. Compared to the industry downturn of the previous two years, the chip market showed much stronger momentum. The tariffs in April, the Nexperia scandal in October, and the year-long memory market boom all injected new vitality into last year’s semiconductor market.

While continuously tracking market trends, we compiled a list of popular chip models with increased demand or prices almost every month. Some models disappeared from the list after only a month, while others remained in the market’s spotlight from mid-year to the end, experiencing fluctuations in popularity but never truly leaving the market’s view.

Below are some representative chip part numbers we observed in our monthly summaries from February of last year to January of this year.

Winbond

The Most Stable NOR Flash of the Year: W25Q128JVSIQ

The W25Q128JVSIQ is a 128M-bit SPI NOR Flash from Winbond, using the industry-standard SPI interface and supporting Dual/Quad SPI (some devices also support QPI). Different models in the W25Q series cover the needs of various fields such as wearable devices, industrial equipment, and automotive applications.

If you were to choose a “memory chip that can’t be ignored in 2025,” the W25Q128JVSIQ should be on the list.

Last July, this chip began to appear on various websites’ trending search lists. Subsequently, it appeared consecutively in the popular part numbers for July, August, September, November, and December, making it one of the most frequently appearing models in the second half of the year.

Specifically, looking at price changes, it rose from 1.8 yuan to just over 3 yuan in July, and then the price remained relatively stable. In October, prices gradually increased again, reaching around 4.5 yuan in November, with market quotations even higher. In December, prices rose further to around 6 yuan, with both buying and selling activity in the market.

In January 2026, buying and selling of W25Q128JVSIQ became even more frequent within industry groups, and prices also saw rapid growth, rising from 6 yuan to 9-10 yuan within a month.

Overall, W25Q128JVSIQ was repeatedly mentioned in several months throughout the year, especially in July–September and November–December, making it one of the most frequently mentioned NOR Flash models annually.

Repeatedly Featured Motion Tracker of the Year: ICM-42688-P

The ICM-42688-P is a 6-axis MEMS motion tracker (IMU) from TDK InvenSense (a company under the TDK Group), integrating a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer. It is used in AR/VR controllers, head-mounted displays, wearable devices, robotics, and IoT applications.

Annual Market Performance

The ICM-42688-P maintained a very stable presence in the second half of last year. This chip appeared on the list of most popular part numbers in September, October, November, and December of last year, and it remained on the list in January of this year. Related models such as the ICM-42670-P also saw a rise in popularity.

Last September, inquiries for the ICM-42688-P increased, and the price rose from the usual 9 yuan to 10-13 yuan. Shortages began in October, and prices started to rise slightly each month, reaching nearly 30 yuan in December. This January, the price suddenly surged to around 50-60 yuan, with some quotes soaring above 70 yuan.

SAMSUNG

The ever-popular and sought-after eMMC chip, KLM8G1GETF-B041

The KLM8G1GETF-B041 is an 8GB eMMC chip from Samsung. Its operation is the same as traditional MMC devices, allowing for simple read and write operations on memory via the industry-standard MMC protocol v5.1.

In October 2024, Samsung issued a “Product Lifecycle End Notification,” affecting products with 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB eMMC capacities. The KLM8G1GETF-B041 was also among the 8GB eMMC products discontinued. Last February, small-capacity eMMC began to gain popularity in the market, and prices surged starting in March. KLM8G1GETF-B041 repeatedly appeared in lists of popular part numbers in April, November, December, and January of this year.

The price of KLM8G1GETF-B041 was around $3.05 (approximately 20 RMB) in April last year, and then continued to rise, reaching around 28 RMB in May, slightly over 60 RMB by the end of November, 70-80 RMB in December, and further surging to around 120 RMB in January of this year.

Although not as explosively popular as DDR4, this eMMC had a significant presence throughout the year.

Analog devices

Repeatedly appearing power module throughout the year: LTM4644IY / LTM4644IY#PBF

The LTM4644 is a four-channel DC/DC step-down μModule regulator that provides 4A of current per output. The suffix #PBF indicates lead-free, while LTM4644IY is the non-lead-free version.

Annual Market Performance

Although the 4644 is a 2014 product, its high integration, high conversion efficiency, and multiple protection functions make it stable and reliable. Its only drawback is its relatively high price. However, some argue that “there are plenty of domestic alternatives to the 4644.”

LTM4644IY/LTM4644IY#PBF was repeatedly listed as a popular part number in February, April, May, and August of last year. In February, inquiries for LTM4644IY increased, and its popularity on third-party platforms rose. At that time, the price had not yet fluctuated significantly, with a market price of around 170-200 yuan. Its popularity remained high thereafter, with the price peaking at 450 yuan in April. After May, the popularity decreased significantly, returning to normal, and the price fell back to around 360 yuan. In August, the price further decreased to between 250-300 yuan. Currently, third-party websites show the LTM4644IY#PBF priced around 150-160 yuan.

Judging from its frequency of appearance, it is one of the more consistently listed power supply devices throughout the year.

ST

An Indispensable Familiar Face: STM32F103 / STM32F407

Both the STM32F103 and STM32F407 are Cortex-M series MCUs from STMicroelectronics, widely used in industrial control, instrumentation, and general embedded systems.

Annual Market Performance

The overall market for MCUs this year wasn’t particularly “exciting,” but the STM32 series remained a consistent presence.

From a time distribution perspective: The most common STM32F103 series component, the STM32F103C8T6, appeared multiple times in the popular part number lists in February, May, and June of last year. The STM32F103 and STM32F407 series were listed as a “series” in April and December of last year.

There was no sudden price surge, nor did it disappear abruptly; it was more like a recurring element on the list.

Nexperia

Nexperia’s automotive-grade component BAV99 / BAV99-Q ignited the market.

BAV99 is a high-speed switching diode from Nexperia. The automotive-grade model is BAV99-Q, used in high-speed switching, reverse polarity protection, and general-purpose switching.

Within the Nexperia system, basic discrete devices like BAV99, along with 74HC automotive logic, PESD protection devices, and BUK/PM series automotive MOSFETs, belong to the category of “general-purpose materials” with very high shipment volumes and wide applications.

The Nexperia incident in October last year triggered a frenzy in the chip spot market. Demand and shipments of Nexperia chips surged, causing prices to skyrocket for most Nexperia chips, especially automotive-grade components.

The BAV99 series was one of Nexperia’s most popular models, experiencing a surge in demand in October. While its normal price was a few cents, the market price in October approached 10 yuan, with some distributors even suspending quotations. After November, some distributors reported chaotic pricing, ranging from 0.2 to 6 yuan, although discussion surrounding Nexperia had decreased compared to the previous month. Subsequently, discussion surrounding Nexperia continued to decline.
